Camping Les Prairies du Lac lies in the heart of the Vendée region of western France,
just 2 km from the medieval village of Apremont and only 30 minutes drive from the coastal town of St Gilles
Croix de Vie with its fine sandy beaches.
The site has one outdoor and one indoor swimming
pool, both heated, plus one paddling pool for the smallest children. There is a children’s play area, table tennis and
mini golf. During the high season (mid June to late August) there is a bar with facilities for pool and darts.
There is also a bouls ground. Entertainments and events are also organised during the high season.
This
four-star camp site is 50 minutes by road from the airport or rail station at Nantes, one
and a half hours from the
airport at La Rochelle and a comfortable three hours drive from the ferry port
at St Malo. There are also rail stations at La Roche sur Yon, 30 minutes drive to the south-east, and St Giles Croix
de Vie, 25 minutes drive to the west.
In Apremont you will find shops, restaurants and an imposing
16th century castle while nearby is a picturesque lake with its own sandy beach where it is possible to bathe, fish or take
to the water in a rented boat or canoe.
The coastal resort of St Gilles Croix de Vie, with its
wonderful sandy beaches, is approximately 18 km to the west, less than half an hour by car.
This campsite, with
its international friendly atmosphere, is open all the year for visitors to stay as long as they like and the main language
spoken on the site is English.

HOW TO GET HERE
|

|
| Brittany Ferries |
|

|
| P & O Ferries |
|

|
| Sea France Ferries |
|
The most
convenient routes from the United Kingdom and Ireland are operated by Brittany Ferries. They have sailings from Cork or Plymouth to Roscoff, Portsmouth or
Poole to Caen and Portsmouth to St Malo. St Malo is the nearest port to the Vendée and is a comfortable three hours
away by car. However, Roscoff and Caen also have excellent fast roads to the area.
If, however, you require
a shorter sea crossing but an eight to nine hour drive you can use either the P & O or Sea France ferries from Dover to Calais. The crossings are about an hour and a
quarter but it is a long drive through Boulogne, Le Mans, Angers and Nantes.
It should be pointed out that there
is only one bus a day past the camp site. Therefore, a car would be needed to get around. Although, it's quite possible
that you may not want to bring your own car across the channel. If that's true there are two more options open to
you. You can fly with Air France from London's City Airport to Nantes Atlantique, where you will be able to rent a car, or from Gatwick to Nantes with Flybe. Alternatively, you can catch the Eurostar from St Pancrass or Ashford to Paris (Gare du Nord). Then you can take the metro to Gare Montpanasse from where you
will take the SNCF train to Nantes. There are many car rental offices on the south side of Nantes Station.
If you have a European sat nav it would be an advantage if you brought
it with you, whether you bring your own car or rent a car when you get here. Then when you arrive in France just programme
- Route de Maché, 85220 Apremont - into the sat nav and it will
guide you straight to the camp site.
